چکیده
Overview of Hydroponics Consumption of tomatoes in the United States has reached 4.3 billion pounds each year. When consumers are willing to pay double or triple standard prices for a great tasting, blemish free product, buyers and sellers alike can smile at the possibilities. Repeated pricing studies have shown that only high-quality, garden vegetables, such as tomatoes, cucumbers, salad crops and culinary herbs, can provide break even or better revenues in hydro systems.

Non-circulating Hydroponic Methods for Growing Tomatoes
‘Big Beef’ tomatoes produced 2.68 kg/plant from a 72 day harvest period when they were grown in 0.35 liter aluminum beverage cans by a sub-irrigation hydroponic method. Tomatoes growing in net pots (70 ml) suspended by expanded polystyrene bead boards with a sub-irrigation method gave similar yields in one trial but lower yields in another trial than tomatoes growing in beverage cans. Tomatoes ...

Five trials were carried out to assess the potential productivity of tomatoes in a deep culture hydroponic system in Genting Highlands (1,200 m a.s.l.), Malaysia. The tomatoes were maintained as single-stemmed plants using the layering and vertical methods ofplant training. Determinate and indeterminate varieties producing large, medium and small-sized fruits were investigated in these trials. ...

Water temperature was elevated and maintained in two of three fish production systems which incorporated biofiltration and hydroponics. Channel catfish (Ictaluruspunctatus) were stocked in indoor fish tanks and fed to satiation once daily. Tomatoes (Lycopersicon esculentum) were planted in outdoor hydroponic tanks. The study was conducted during the 1979 growing season. Afternoon water temperat...

In the U.S., tomatoes are only exceeded by potatoes in economic importance. Among fresh vegetable products, annual per capita consumption of fresh tomatoes is only exceeded by lettuce and potatoes. Consumption of fresh tomatoes has remained fairly constant at around 12.8 pounds for the past 10 years as compared to the consumption of processed tomatoes in the form of ketchup and sauces which has...
متن کاملQuality comparison of hydroponic tomatoes (Lycopersicon esculentum) ripened on and off vine.
There is a general belief that the quality of tomatoes ripened on vine is better than tomatoes ripened off the vine, influencing among other parameters, the price of this commodity. We compared the quality of hydroponic tomatoes ripened on and off vine by chemical, physical, and sensory evaluation to find what attributes are affected and to what extent. Lycopene, beta-carotene, total and solubl...
